As September arrives, Bath takes on a golden glow. The hint of city lanterns, earlier evenings, and the city slips effortlessly into Austen Autumn.
For the Jane Austen Festival, we’re marking the occasion in our own way. In 1799, she stayed here, on the streets our seven townhouses have always occupied. Two years later, she wrote to her sister about “disordering my Stomach with Bath buns.” It seemed only right to bring one back.
Throughout the festival, every afternoon tea comes with a Bath Bun, gorgeously wrapped to take home, alongside a Francis tote. Book our sparkling afternoon tea and swap the bubbles for a Regency Cooler from Emberwood. A homemade lemonade, a tipple of tequila, fresh herb bouquet.
Served daily 1pm to 3:30pm throughout the festival. Bookings essential.

Literature has always felt at home at the Francis Hotel.
This September, as part of the celebration of Austen's Autumn, our lounge becomes a relaxed literary corner of the city, with a selection of books curated by our neighbours at Mr B’s Emporium, Bath’s much-loved independent bookshop.
With a hint of Jane Austen dotted around, pick one up, settle into the lounge and read a few pages over tea, or lose an afternoon entirely. If you want to take a book home, our lovely doormen will guide you to Mr B's Emporium, a few steps across the road, an escape into a library of books to take home.
